BCCHA Remembrance Poem

We are here today to honor the best

For showing their horses and outshining the rest

You’ve achieved a great goal and deserve our applause

For working to win on your personal cause

Cutting ain’t easy, we all know that well

Take pride in your efforts, all you that excel

Today is so special with awards given out

But there is something else we should think about

Let’s all take some time to honor those souls

That gave us the chance to shoot for our goals

Today we remember those that did serve

They gave with their hearts and showed lots of nerve

We wear our poppies and remember with pride

Those who came home and those who have died

They were fathers and mothers and brothers and sons

They were sisters and daughters and they fought against guns

They gave of themselves all for a great cause

And they are the ones who deserve our applause

Its hard to imagine in our lives today

The price that they paid as they went away

They served overseas and so far from home

McCrae saw their service and said in a poem

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow

Beneath the crosses row on row

I’ve seen those crosses when I went there

And the poppies swaying in the still air

We have family members that lie in that ground

The guns are now silenced, there’s nary a sound

But we will remember and wear poppies with pride

For their service to us as we weep inside

So when we are working and showing our horse

And winning those buckles and blankets of course

Say thanks to those vets who have laid the way

For our lives and homes and the chances to play

So Congrats to the winners and all that compete

Showing is thrilling and winning is sweet

But today we remember and will never forget

The wars of this world and the lives of the vet
